Apples to Apples

It’s only been a few weeks in art, but we've already dove in head first.  We've been working on shading fruit in pencil and color.  Shading in pencil is honestly not my favorite art technique.  I am glad that I got to learn a little more about it and practice, though. I do however really like shading in color.  I think when your shading in pencil, there is a little more pressure to make it look realistic.  When shading in color, although the dimension of the real life object is there, it looks much more (as Mrs. Kiick says) painterly.  I just recently finished my colored apple and I like it much more then my shaded fruit. I do need to work on my shading skills, and get a little more comfortable with it.  My mom gave me a helpful tip the other day, "When you're shading imagine a light source, and the shading will look more realistic." Maybe I'll try it.
