Final Thoughts

This marking period I surprised myself.  Working on the blog has definitely been a
highlight the marking period. I really enjoy working on computes artistically.  I think
my blog is a pretty good representation my thoughts and feelings.  The shading of fruit definitely made me look at apples differently.  It is in fact not just an apple but also a canvas of color and dimension.  Working on the self-portrait has been awesome.  I can’t wait to keep working on it and seeing how it comes out.  I’m really looking forward to the second marking period.

Self Portrait

I've really enjoyed working on my self-portrait for the last few weeks.  I didn’t think I
was going to like it as much as I do because I didn’t think my drawing skills were good
enough to pull it off.  I found that when drawing our “cartoon outline” of our faces, I
didn’t feel so pressured to make it look perfect or exactly like me.  I’m happy with my
finished outline and excited to work into it with paint, ink and colored pencils.  I experimented with paint on my miniature crop and I like it.  I do look a little bit like a
witch, but it’s funky.

Apples to Apples

It’s only been a few weeks in art, but we've already dove in head first.  We've been working on shading fruit in pencil and color.  Shading in pencil is honestly not my favorite art technique.  I am glad that I got to learn a little more about it and practice, though. I do however really like shading in color.  I think when your shading in pencil, there is a little more pressure to make it look realistic.  When shading in color, although the dimension of the real life object is there, it looks much more (as Mrs. Kiick says) painterly.  I just recently finished my colored apple and I like it much more then my shaded fruit. I do need to work on my shading skills, and get a little more comfortable with it.  My mom gave me a helpful tip the other day, "When you're shading imagine a light source, and the shading will look more realistic." Maybe I'll try it.

Welcome to my Blog

This summer I decided that I want to work in the arts as a career.  I'm interested in design and designed several thematic collages in the last two years.  My favorite art is Impressionism.  I like Monet the best.  I also like some modern art that has dramatic colors and images.
